A fairy! – ¡Un hada!

Have you heard about Trapeando’s Fairies Week? She has been posting about fairies and elves the whole week, take a look at it!! Moreover, she’s giving away something fairy among the participants!

¿Habéis oído sobre la Semana de las Hadas de Trapeando? Ha estado posteando toda la semana sobre hadas y elfos, ¡Id a verlo! ¡Además sortea algo feérico entre las participantes!

I’ve just finished my fairy!

A one with crunchy wings and a jingle. Bubu liked the butterfly I did for Julia so much, that she deserved having something with crunchy wings and a jingle too!

¡Acabo de acabar el hada!

Una con alitas crujientes y un cascabel. ¡A Bubu le gustó tanto la mariposa que le hice a Julia que se merecía algo con alas crujientes y cascabel!

Bubu and I go every Wednesday afternoon to a workshop called “Music for Babies” together, there we sing, dance, play instruments and do other activities related to music. There we discovered an “instrument” that looks like a bracelet with jingles for the ankle. And of course I had to do one for her!

Linibau from trapeando says that these are fairy “bracelets”! Fantastic!!

I’ve taken one of my scraps bracelets (Bubu loves them!) and I’ve added the jingles! Now I have my own little fairy jingle-ing around!! :-D

Bubu y yo vamos cada miércoles a “Música para bebés”, allí cantamos, bailamos, tocamos instrumentos y hacemos otras cosas relacionadas con la música. Allí descubrimos un “instrumento” que parece una pulsera con cascabeles para poner en el tobillo. Y claro, hace días que le quería hacerle una o dos.

Linibau de Trapeando dice que esto son “pulseras” de hadas. ¡Fantástico!

He aprovechado una de mis pulseras de retales (que además le encantan a Bubu) y le he añadido los cascabeles. Ahora mismo tengo a mi pequeña hadita cascabeleando a mi alrededor!

And to conclude I wanted to show the fairy I made some time ago for my niece Jana. I posted about it here, together with the other puppets I made for my nephews.

For baby Julia – Para la pequeña Julia

Just on time! I finished the presents for baby Julia yesterday, and she was born yesterday!!

These are the little things I sewed for the baby girl of my cousin Marc and his wife Patricia.

The Summer Breeze Dress (pattern by Shwin & Shwin) and a diaper cover (pattern by Dana Made It), all in pink baby corduroy, for the little princess!

I did the diaper cover because I remember I hated it when Bubu had a nice dress but no matching bloomers.

By the way, *sigh*, how nice is to sew tiny clothes!!

¡Casi me pilla el toro! ¡Ayer acabé los regalitos para Julia, y va y nace ayer mismo!

Estas son las cositas que le he cosido a la primera hija de mi primo Marc y su mujer Patricia.

El Summer Breeze Dress (patrón de Shwin & Shwin) y un cubre-pañal (patrón de Dana Made It). Todo en pana pequeña ¡y en rosa para la princesita!

Le he hecho el cubre-pañal a juego porque me acuerdo que me daba mucha rabia cuando los vestidos de Bubu no tenían las braguitas a juego.

Por cierto, *suspiro*, ¡qué guai coser ropita tan diminuta! 

And for when she starts paying attention to things around her, I sewed a butterfly (inspired by this one I found at Sew Mama Sew).

The wings crinkle because they have cellophane inside, and I added a jingle too. I hope she likes it!

Y para cuando se empiece a fijar en las cosas que le rodean, le he cosido una mariposa (inspirada en una que encontré en Sew Mama Sew).

Las alitas crujen por el celofán que hay dentro, y además le he añadido un cascabel. ¡Espero que le guste! 

There’s something else for her, but I’ll show it another day (I’m sewing another one of this “something else” for the other baby we’re expecting in the family, so I’ll show both together).

Quilt and cushion for the dolls – Colcha y cojín para las muñecas

Or I’d better title this post: “Why I hate Maths” (we’ll come to that later).

This is the first quilt I make. I love learning new things, so I had to try patchwork and quilting!! The cover for the doll basket was a fantastic excuse to try it.

O más bien debería titular este post: "Por qué odio las mates" (después os cuento).

Esta es la primera colcha que hago. Me encanta aprender cosas nuevas, así que tenía que probar con el patchwork y el acolchado. Una mantita para la cesta de muñecas era la excusa perfecta.

The tutorial of Chrissie helped me assembling the squares because I had no idea if there was any special technique for that. [If you’re fond of quilting don’t miss her blog. Moreover, she takes stunning pics of her work with the NYC skyline on the background!]

Some of my squares didn’t really match when I wanted to sew the rows together, so I had to do a second stitching on two or three of them. Even though I made these adjustments some squares stretched when sewing the rows and the seams don’t match. :_(

El tutorial de Chrissie me ha ayudado a montar los cuadrados, porque no sabía si había alguna técnica en especial. [Si os gusta el patchwork no os perdáis su blog. Además hace unas fotos de sus trabajos con el skyline de NY de fondo ¡que flipas!]

Algunos de los cuadrados no casaban cuando fui a coser las franjas, así que tuve que recoser un par de cuadraditos. Pero aún así, algunas telas dieron de sí al coser las franjas y al final alguna que otra costura no ha casado del todo. :_(

I thought about which would be a nice way to quilt the layers together, and I finally stitched in the ditch with clear thread on the top, the simplest one I guess.

I didn’t use any binding to finish it. I “invented” a method (well, I’m sure it already existed, you patchwork fans could tell me!): I folded the backing to the front and closed and quilted the edge (and sewed the lace trim!) at the same time.

Le dí vueltas a cómo acolchar-la, y al final cosí por la línea de las costuras con un hilo transparente, supongo que es la manera más sencilla.

No he usado cinta para acabar-la. Me he sacado un método de la manga (que seguro que ya existe, ¡las amigas patchworkeras nos lo podrán confirmar!): he doblado la tela de atrás hacia delante, y así he cerrado la mantita y acolchado el borde (y cosido la puntilla) todo de una vez.

Now you understand why I switched Maths for Ancient Greek in high school when I was 16, don’t you?

I’m so ashamed!!! In my defense I must say that I don’t visualize the moment I was doing the addition, and I have a very sharp visual memory, so, that makes me think that I was probably doing something else at the same moment. I’m sure all the moms around here know about this phenomenon!!

Well, that’s the reason why the squares at both short sides of the quilt aren’t 6x6 cm like they should be…  :_(

Ahora entendéis por qué cambié las mates por griego en cuanto pude en el instituto, ¿verdad?

¡¡Qué vergüenza, madre mía!! En mi defensa diré que no logro visualizar el momento en que hice la suma, y tengo mucha muchísima memoria visual, así que seguramente estaba haciendo alguna otra cosa al mismo tiempo. ¡¡Seguro que las mamis saben de qué les hablo y conocen bien el fenómeno!!

Pues nada, ahora ya sabéis por qué los cuadrados de los lados cortos no són de 6x6 como deberían... :_(

I used scraps from other projects, chopped bottoms of pajama pants included –but not my favorite ones this time-, batting, an old bed sheet, and also vintage lace trim from my grandma. This is therefore a nice recycling project.

Bubu loves the quilt, and this is the most important! She has already sent Mickey and Minnie(s) to bed!!

And that's all! Next one will be better!!

He usado retales de otros proyectos, incluídos bajos de pantalón de pijama -no mis favoritos esta vez-, guata, parte de una sábana vieja, y también puntillas vintage de mi abuela. Así que es un buen proyecto de reciclaje.

A Bubu le gusta la colchita (reconoce un montón de telas), ¡y eso es lo que cuenta! ¡Ya ha enviado a Mickey y a Minnie y demás bichejos a dormir!

Y nada, ¡la siguiente me saldrá mejor!

A case for my new Firmoo sunglasses – Una funda para mis nuevas gafas de sol de Firmoo

Here is the new case I’ve made for my brand new sunglasses! I think it has turned out a bit flamenco… My hubby doesn’t like it (what do polka dots have to do with flowers?), well, maybe he’s right!!

¡Aquí está la funda que le he hecho a mis nuevas gafas de sol! Creo que me ha quedado con inspiración flamenca… Al padre de Bubu no le ha gustado (¿qué tienen que ver los lunares con las flores?), bueno, ¡¡quizá tenga razón!!

And here the story of how I got the glasses:

Some months ago Firmoo contacted me. They wanted me to try their glasses for free and of course I couldn’t resist! It took me a while to choose them –too many things going on at the same time- but finally I did it ten days ago, and the glasses arrived yesterday!

I must say I was a bit skeptical at the beginning, because I wondered how you could buy glasses without trying them on. But they have a nice system to do it, you can simply upload a picture of you and try them on virtually. Great idea, isn’t it?

You can visit their site and look for your favorite ones (you can even buy prescription glasses!). They are very affordable, but you can usually try a pair for free (you pay only the shipping).

Y aquí la historia de cómo conseguí las gafas: 

Hace unos meses me contactaron los de Firmoo. Querían que probara unas gafas suyas gratis y claro, ¡no me pude resistir! Me llevó algún tiempo escogerlas –demasiadas cosas entre manos al mismo tiempo-, pero al final lo hice hace unos diez días y ayer llegó el paquete.

Debo decir que al principio era un poco escéptica, porque me preguntaba cómo se podían comprar unas gafas sin ni siquiera probártelas. Pues bien, esta gente se ha inventado un sistema genial, subes una foto tuya a la página y te las pruebas virtualmente. Qué cosas, ¿verdad?

Podéis visitar la web y escoger vuestras favoritas (¡incluso podéis comprar gafas graduadas!). Están muy bien de precio, pero normalmente se puede probar el primer par gratis (pagando sólo el envío).

I like mine a lot, very red from the front, but they are actually four-color.

And that’s me before the flash! You won’t see this face very often, so don’t get use to it…
