~~&~~

Today is Bubu’s first day of school. Here in Spain all kids go to school when they are three (they could stay home till they are six, but no-one does so…). She has never gone to kindergarden, so this is actually the first time she will be apart from us. It’s kind of sad for me, not for her…

I love the German tradition of the Schultüte. A cardboard cone full of surprises such as school supplies, tiny toys and sweets (no sweets for my three-year-old, sorry Bubu… huhuhu) for the first school day. So this was a must have!

Voy a explicar rápidamente cómo lo he hecho:

~~&~~

I’ll quickly explain how I did it:

First of all, I traced a quarter circle, with the help of the measure tape, I don’t have a big compass. The sides are 50cm (~20 inches) long.

~~&~~

Then I decorated it. The fabric letters were attached with glue, the wooden buttons sewn and then I went crazy and I drew hundreds of stars and dots… an horror-vacui-attack!!

Notice that there is a blank space, that’s where both sides of the cone are glued together.

~~&~~

After assembling the cone I sewed the top and fabric part of the Schultüte. You must measure the length of the circumference, that’s the top of the cone, to know how long must be the fabric loop.

Then I attached the fabric to the cardboard, and covered the edge with a ribbon, all glued again.

To hide the small hole at the bottom of the cone I covered it with a piece of fabric.

And this is it! Do you like this tradition? And my Tüte?

And my friend Filsanddraps has done her own version of the thing!!
