Tank top – Camiseta de tirantes

This is the second top I do for the “Spring Top Sewalong”, organized by Made by Rae. Ok, it’s more appropriate for the summer, but here it’s getting warmer…

It’s actually a variation of the Plantain (it's a free pattern by Deer & Doe. This is the first one I sewed). I kept width and length and the neckline from the original pattern, and I made the armhole.

Este es la segunda camiseta que hago para el “Spring Top Sewalong”, organizado por Made by Rae. Vale, no es muy “spring”, o sea “primavera”, pero aquí empieza a hacer calorcillo…

En realidad es una variación de la Plantain (patrón gratis de Deer & Doe. Aquí la primera que cosí). He mantenido el largo y ancho y el cuello, pero me he inventado la forma de los hombros.

I’ve used a striped jersey I got last time at the market (present from my hubby for my birthday!), and a black one I already had for the bias.

He usado una tela de punto que me agencié la última vez en el mercado (¡regalo de cumple de mi nene!), y un trozo de una negra que ya tenía para el biés.

To join the trend of exposed zippers I added one at the back. But don’t look too close, there’s actually no slider at all, there’s only the chain (the zipper I used for my plaid dress was too long, so here is the rest of it).  Is it too tacky??

Para unirme a la moda de las cremalleras vistas le he añadido una a la espalda. Pero no miréis demasiado de cerca porque no hay carro… sólo están los dientes (la cremallera que usé para el vestido a cuadros era demasiado larga, y aquí está lo que sobró). ¿Es muy cutre? Jajajaja

Tutorial & free pattern: Apron and chef’s hat – Delantal y gorro de chef (2)

Yesterday I shared the tutorial for the apron, and today it’s the turn of the chef’s hat.

You can download the patterns for both things here.

[Notice that, when assembling the pattern of the top of the hat, you can either cut and join the four pieces, or tape only the half circumference and cut the fabric on fold.]

Ayer compartí el tutorial del delantal, y hoy toca el gorro de chef.

Podéis descargar el patrón de las dos cosas aquí.

[Ved que cuando montamos el patrón de la parte de arriba del gorro, podéis cortar las cuatro piezas y pegarlas, o podéis pegar sólo dos, os queda una semi-circunferencia, y cortáis la tela con doblez.]

Once you have assembled the pattern, cut the fabric pieces adding 1cm (3/8 inch) seam allowance.

And this is what you need to begin sewing:

-1x hat top (main fabric)
-1x hat band (main fabric)
-1x hat band (heavy weight fusible interfacing) but don’t cut on fold!
[I’ve used felt again – call me freak]
-Double fold bias tape (about 56cm - 22 inches) 
-Velcro

Una vez habéis pegado el patrón, cortad las piezas añadiendo 1 cm de margen.

Y esto es lo que necesitaréis para empezar a coser:

-1x parte de arriba del gorro (tela principal) 
-1x banda (tela principal) 
-1x banda (entretela gruesa) - ¡pero no cortada en doblez!
[Yo he usado fieltro de nuevo- freaky freaky freak freak]
-Cinta al biés de doble doblez (unos 56cm - 22 inches)
-Velcro

If you are using fusible interfacing, apply it first.

Then place and attach the Velcro. One mm above and under the folded line, and about 15 mm (5/8 inch) from the side edge.
[In the sketch, the broken line of the Velcro means it’s attached to the wrong side.]

Si vais a poner entretela hacedlo lo primero.

Entonces colocad y poned el velcro. Un mm por encima y el otro por debajo del borde del doblez, y a unos 15 mm del borde lateral.
[En el esquema, la línea discontinua del velcro significa que va en la cara trasera de la tela]

Fold the band piece, right sides together, and stitch like shown, 1cm from the edge.

Clip the excess fabric from the corner.

Dobla la tela, encarando derechos, y cose como está indicado abajo, a 1cm del borde.

Cortad un triángulo de la esquina izquierda.

Turn it right side out.

Ponedlo del derecho.

If you are so felt-freak like me put it now inside. Notice that the felt piece must have the same shape as the already sewn hat band (i.e., a tiny bit is missing: 1x4cm).

Si sois friki-fieltras como yo ponedlo ahora dentro. Ved que esta pieza tiene la misma forma que la banda del gorro una vez cosida (o sea, le falta un trocito: 1x4cm).

Now mark the four quarters of both the band and the hat top. We’ll need it to place it evenly.

Ahora marcad los cuatro cuartos tanto de la banda como de la circunferencia. Lo necesitaremos para asegurarnos de que nos quede la misma cantidad de tela en cada cuarto.

Pin the four “quarter” marks together, and then continue pinning top and band of the hat by doing little pleats at the top. Right sides together. 
[Or you can sew a basting line around the edge and gather like you do with a skirt.]

Pin the flap of the band down, like shown, to avoid stitching over it in the next step.

Juntad las cuatro marcas, encarando derechos, y después seguid poniendo alfileres para juntar la banda y la parte de arriba del gorro, mediante pequeños pliegues. 
[También se puede hacer como en las faldas: hacer una embasta en el borde de la circunferencia y tirar de los hilos para fruncir.]

Doblad la esquinita de la pestaña de la banda hacia abajo como en la foto, para evitar coser por encima de ella en el siguiente paso.

Sew top and band together at 1cm. Then finish raw edges with a zigzag.

Cosed a 1cm todo el círculo. Y terminad los bordes con un zigzag.

Turn right side out, sew the decorative folded bias all around the band, and you’re done!

Dadle la vuelta, cosed el biés doblado para decorar, y ¡ya estáis!

Tutorial & free pattern: Apron and chef’s hat – Delantal y gorro de chef (1)

Since Bubu got a play kitchen for her birthday, I wanted to do an apron and a chef’s hat set for her.

I went to Teixits Eloy and I got in love with these puppies, aren’t they adorable? The fabric by “Poppy Europe” is called “Dog Dog” and is patchwork cotton (12,50€ / meter).

I’ve prepared a tutorial and I share the pattern here. So that it’s not too long, I’ll do the apron today and you can come back tomorrow for the chef’s hat, which is a bit trickier.

Desde que a Bubu le regalaron una cocinita, que quería hacerle un conjunto de delantal y gorro de chef.

Me fui el otro día a Teixits Eloy y me enamoré de estos perritos, ¿verdad que son muy monos? La tela, un algodón tipo patchwork, se llama “Dog Dog” y es de “Poppy Europe” (12,50€ / metro).

He preparado un tutorial y comparto el patrón. Para que no sea un post demasiado largo hoy os dejo cómo hacer el delantal y mañana vuelvo con el gorro de chef, que tiene más intríngulis.

I think the apron should fit a 2-3 year old child, but it’s really easy to adapt it for an older one, just make the apron longer and make sure the head is going to pass through the gap (you could also try other ways to tie it up around the neck: making two loose ends and tying them together with a knot or a snap…).

So, for the apron you’ll need:

-The pattern (download here for free)

-Less than a fat quarter (about 40x40cm)

-Double fold bias tape (about 160cm - 63 inches)

El delantal debería ir bien a un niño de 2-3 años, pero se puede adaptar a niños mayores haciendo el delantal más largo y asegurándose de que la cabeza le pasa por el hueco del cuello (también se pueden hacer diferentes variaciones a la hora de atar el cuello: dejar dos cabos sueltos y atarlos con un nudo, poniendo un snap…).

A lo que vamos, para el delantal se necesita:

-El patrón (se descarga gratis aquí)

-Menos de un fat quarter de tela (unos 40x40cm)

-Cinta al biés de doble doblez (unos 160cm - 63 inches)

Print and assemble the pattern, trace and cut fabric. You only need to leave seam allowance in the straight lines.

Hem all straight lines.

Imprimid y pegad el patron. Calcad y cortad la tela. Sólo se necesita margen de costura en los lados rectos.

Haced un dobladillo en los lados rectos.

Then look for the center of the bias tape, and from that point measure and mark 20cm on each side, there is where you have to begin to attach the bias tape to the “armscye”.

Entonces buscad el centro de la cinta al biés, y desde ese punto medid 20 cm y haceos una marca a cada lado. En esos dos puntos es donde se debe empezar a poner la cinta en la “sisa”.

Pin the bias to the “armscye”.

And begin sewing from one end of the apron ties to the other all along the tape.

Alfiletead el biés a la “sisa”.

Y empezad a coser por un cabo de la cinta para cerrarla, todo todo hasta el otro cabo.

Ready!
