Capa caperucita - Cape and hood

¡Aquí va una de reciclaje!

De una camisa de la abuela a capa de disfraz. A las Bubus les gusta disfrazarse. Bubu mayor hacía mucho de soldado romano antes y a mini Bubu le gusta hacer de caballero medieval con su caballo de trapo.

Y como a veces pretenden ser Caperucita Roja, pues les cosí una capucha con lo que sobraba de la camisa. Es de quita y pon con snaps, muy práctico.

¡Viva el reciclaje!

A recycling project today!

From a shirt that once belonged to my grandmother to a cape. The Bubus like to disguise. Big Bubu liked to pretend being a roman soldier, Mini Bubu likes riding a fabric horse like a medieval knight.

And because they sometimes like to be Red Riding Hood I sewed a hood with the remaining fabric of the shirt. It is attached with snaps, so, totally removable.

Reduce, re-use, recycle!

Mini Bubu hace mucho el indio. Así que para su cumpleaños ya tenía claro qué hacerle. 

No hay mucho que contar… patrón propio, hecho en fieltro, y ya.

Mini Bubu got an Indian headband for her birthday.

There’s not much to explain… pattern self drafted, done with felt, and that’s all.

Disfraz de jinete - Horse rider costume

Disfraz de jinete para Bubu, porque está en la clase de "los jinetes" y se disfrazaban todos juntos.

En fieltro todo ello.

Casquillo hecho con el patrón gratis de Ottobre (ya lo utilicé para un gorro de verano hace tiempo), modificando para hacer la visera.

Chaleco de patrón propio (a partir de camiseta), con aplicación de caballo.

Caña de las botas, por no tener ganas ni tiempo de hacer un "cubre botas" entero...

Horse rider costume for Bubu, because her school class is called "the horse riders" (the kids chose the name).

All made of felt.

Cola de sirena – Mermaid tail

Bubu le pidió una sirena a los Reyes Magos. Como las Barbies y similares no me gustan se me pasó por la cabeza coserle una cola de sirena en su lugar.

Acabé cortando casi 200 escamas (acabé haciendo más de las que dije en Instagram), y lo peor de todo: planchándolas antes de coserlas (XD).

Bubu asked the Three Wise Men for a mermaid. I didn’t want her to have the typical Barbie doll, so I thought about sewing a tail instead.

I ended up cutting nearly 200 scales, and the worst part: ironing them before sewing (XD).

Dibujé el patrón yo misma. Fue una buena idea hacer una abertura detrás a la altura de los talones, para que pueda sacar los pies y dar algunos pasos (porque andar lo que se dice andar, pues ya se sabe que las sirenas no pueden…). Es una abertura solapada, tipo cojín de hotel, ¿se entiende?

I drafted the pattern myself. I think it was a good idea leaving an opening at the back above the heels, for her to be able to take her feet out and take some steps (walking is obviously impossible in a mermaid tail).

Telas básicamente del mercado. La curiosa es la turquesa oscura de la aleta, es de un mantel que compré demasiado largo y corté, es algodón resinado, y tiene un brillo muy sirenil.

Aunque claro, la cola no tuvo el visto bueno hasta que no tuvo sus lentejuelas y piedrecillas cosidas, opinión de Bubu, naturalmente.

Fabrics are mostly from the market. Funny is the teal one, it’s from a tablecloth I cropped because it was too long for my table. It’s a resin-coated cotton, with a nice shine, very mermaidish.

But the tail wasn’t good enough till I sewed the sequins and rhinestones on it, Bubu’s opinion of course.

Túnica blanca - White tunic

Para la representación navideña del colegio, nos pidieron una túnica blanca para Bubu. Los de pre-escolar explicaban, bailaban y cantaban diferentes tradiciones del mundo. A ella le tocó en el grupo de la Fiesta de la Luz escandinava (Santa Lucía).

Por suerte tenía el patrón "gissa vem" (Ottobre 1/2016) ya calcado desde el verano, porque mi tiempo costuril es más que reducido últimamente, así que pude ir al grano.

La túnica está cosida con tela barata de disfraz, pero le puse puntilla en el cuello y en las mangas.

For her Christmas show at school Bubu needed a white tunic. The pre-schoolers had to dance and sing and explain different traditions of the world. She was in the group representing the scandinavian tradition of St. Lucy and the celebration of light.

Luckily I had the "gissa vem" pattern (Ottobre 172016) ready for use, because I'm quite short on sewing time lately, and I only had to lengthen the skirt.

Done with cheap costume fabric, but with some lace on the neck and sleeves.

Pirate kit - Kit pirata

For the pirates in my family, that is, for Bubu and her two cousins, boys. The girls are too princessy to have pirate stuff!

A bandana and an eye patch for each.

Fabrics from the market with felt appliqué, and felt as well for the patch.

Measures of the triangle, in case you want to make one:

Base: 100 cm (~40 inches)

Height: 40 cm (~16 inches)

Para los piratas de la familia, que son Bubu y sus dos primos niños. ¡Las primas son muy princesiles para que el Tió les cague kits de piratas!

Una bandana y un parche para cada uno.

Telas del mercado con aplicación en fieltro, y fieltro para el parche también.

Medidas del triángulo por si queréis hacer una:

Base: 100 cm

Altura: 40 cm

Tutorial & free pattern: Apron and chef’s hat – Delantal y gorro de chef (2)

Yesterday I shared the tutorial for the apron, and today it’s the turn of the chef’s hat.

You can download the patterns for both things here.

[Notice that, when assembling the pattern of the top of the hat, you can either cut and join the four pieces, or tape only the half circumference and cut the fabric on fold.]

Ayer compartí el tutorial del delantal, y hoy toca el gorro de chef.

Podéis descargar el patrón de las dos cosas aquí.

[Ved que cuando montamos el patrón de la parte de arriba del gorro, podéis cortar las cuatro piezas y pegarlas, o podéis pegar sólo dos, os queda una semi-circunferencia, y cortáis la tela con doblez.]

Once you have assembled the pattern, cut the fabric pieces adding 1cm (3/8 inch) seam allowance.

And this is what you need to begin sewing:

-1x hat top (main fabric)
-1x hat band (main fabric)
-1x hat band (heavy weight fusible interfacing) but don’t cut on fold!
[I’ve used felt again – call me freak]
-Double fold bias tape (about 56cm - 22 inches) 
-Velcro

Una vez habéis pegado el patrón, cortad las piezas añadiendo 1 cm de margen.

Y esto es lo que necesitaréis para empezar a coser:

-1x parte de arriba del gorro (tela principal) 
-1x banda (tela principal) 
-1x banda (entretela gruesa) - ¡pero no cortada en doblez!
[Yo he usado fieltro de nuevo- freaky freaky freak freak]
-Cinta al biés de doble doblez (unos 56cm - 22 inches)
-Velcro

If you are using fusible interfacing, apply it first.

Then place and attach the Velcro. One mm above and under the folded line, and about 15 mm (5/8 inch) from the side edge.
[In the sketch, the broken line of the Velcro means it’s attached to the wrong side.]

Si vais a poner entretela hacedlo lo primero.

Entonces colocad y poned el velcro. Un mm por encima y el otro por debajo del borde del doblez, y a unos 15 mm del borde lateral.
[En el esquema, la línea discontinua del velcro significa que va en la cara trasera de la tela]

Fold the band piece, right sides together, and stitch like shown, 1cm from the edge.

Clip the excess fabric from the corner.

Dobla la tela, encarando derechos, y cose como está indicado abajo, a 1cm del borde.

Cortad un triángulo de la esquina izquierda.

Turn it right side out.

Ponedlo del derecho.

If you are so felt-freak like me put it now inside. Notice that the felt piece must have the same shape as the already sewn hat band (i.e., a tiny bit is missing: 1x4cm).

Si sois friki-fieltras como yo ponedlo ahora dentro. Ved que esta pieza tiene la misma forma que la banda del gorro una vez cosida (o sea, le falta un trocito: 1x4cm).

Now mark the four quarters of both the band and the hat top. We’ll need it to place it evenly.

Ahora marcad los cuatro cuartos tanto de la banda como de la circunferencia. Lo necesitaremos para asegurarnos de que nos quede la misma cantidad de tela en cada cuarto.

Pin the four “quarter” marks together, and then continue pinning top and band of the hat by doing little pleats at the top. Right sides together. 
[Or you can sew a basting line around the edge and gather like you do with a skirt.]

Pin the flap of the band down, like shown, to avoid stitching over it in the next step.

Juntad las cuatro marcas, encarando derechos, y después seguid poniendo alfileres para juntar la banda y la parte de arriba del gorro, mediante pequeños pliegues. 
[También se puede hacer como en las faldas: hacer una embasta en el borde de la circunferencia y tirar de los hilos para fruncir.]

Doblad la esquinita de la pestaña de la banda hacia abajo como en la foto, para evitar coser por encima de ella en el siguiente paso.

Sew top and band together at 1cm. Then finish raw edges with a zigzag.

Cosed a 1cm todo el círculo. Y terminad los bordes con un zigzag.

Turn right side out, sew the decorative folded bias all around the band, and you’re done!

Dadle la vuelta, cosed el biés doblado para decorar, y ¡ya estáis!
