Vintage dress mending

We had another wedding last weekend, this time was my hubby’s brother, who married.

For the occasion I wanted to wear a handmade dress it belonged to my grandma one day, but it needed some mending work.

Este fin de semana hemos tenido otra boda, esta vez era el turno de mis cuñados, el hermano de mi marido y Judit. Han sido dos días intensos de boda, pero también muy divertidos y con momentos muy emotivos.

Para la ocasión quería ponerme un vestido hecho a mano que perteneció a mi abuela, pero que necesitaba un poco de remiendo.

The top part was unstitched and the lace was a bit damaged, especially on the waist.

La parte de arriba estaba descosida y la blonda estaba agujereada en algunos sitios, sobre todo en la cintura. 

I don’t know why the under layer was longer than the one on top and the tulle was frayed. 

No sé por qué la capa de debajo de la falda era más corta que la de encima, y el tul estaba deshilachado.

 

The lining, which had been once starched to give the skirt more volume, had the typical stains from old clothes. I simply removed it and the skirt still looked perfect, it was only less stiff and heavy.

And I’m glad, I was able to learn something new! And that’s how to sew a blind hem with the special presser foot on the machine.

La entretela de la falda, que en su origen estaba almidonada y le daba volumen, tenía las típicas manchas de ropa vieja. Esta simplemente la quité, y la falda quedó igualmente bien, sólo que menos tiesa (¡y pesaba menos!).

¡Y Además estoy orgullosa de haber aprendido algo nuevo! Se trata de cómo usar la pata para puntada invisible.

If I ever find a picture of my grandma in this dress I’ll post it!

Charles Pants

I’ve finished the Charles Pants, from Marte’s sew-along, on time!!

I’ve been sewing like mad these days! Well, that’s maybe too exaggerated. It has been actually less work than I expected (maybe the pockets were a little tricky).

It’s a free pattern and it comes with detailed instructions (I would only add a few more photos of some steps, but it’s easy to follow anyway. The proof is that I’ve been able to sew them!).

I discovered “Compagnie M.” on april, and I’m happy to be one of her very first followers. She really does lovely things. So, I invite you to take a look at her blog, which is really nice, and request this one or another fantastic pattern, because she has a few for free.

He acabado los Charles Pants del “cose conmigo” de Marte, y ¡¡a tiempo!!

¡He estado cosiendo como una loca estos días! Bueno, me he pasado, en realidad ha sido menos trabajo de lo que esperaba (los bolsillos eran un poco más peliagudos).

Se trata de un patrón gratuito que viene con unas instrucciones bien detalladas (tan solo he echado en falta algunas fotos de algunos pasos, pero se puede seguir bien igualmente. ¡La prueba es que los he podido coser!).

Descubrí “Compagnie M.” en abril y fui una de sus primeras seguidoras, y es que de verdad hace cosas muy chulas. Así que os invito a pasaros por su blog y pedirle este o algún otro patrón de los que ofrece gratis.

Well after this introduction, let’s come to Bubu’s new pants!

Although Marte says she likes these pants with jeans fabric the most, I chose the purple fabric I had used already for the reversible vest and skirt, and the polka dotted fabric I bought recently.

Bueno, después de esta intro, ¡vayamos a los nuevos pantalones de Bubu!

Aunque Marte dice que le gustan más con tela vaquera, yo he escogido la tela lila que ya utilicé para la falda y el chaleco reversibles, y la tela que compré hace poco en Interquilt.

Making the adjustable waistband was quite funny.

Hacer la cinturilla ajustable ha sido divertido.

I didn’t have enough of the polka dotted fabric, so I had to use the same pink fabric of the piping for the part of the pockets that you actually don't see.

No tenía suficiente tela de lunares, así que he usado la misma tela rosa del cordoncillo para la parte del bolsillo que se ve menos.

 

I wanted to do the button holes horizontally, I think they’d have looked nicer, but my sewing machine didn’t want to… I still don’t know why…

Quería hacer los agujeros de los botones en horizontal, creo que hubieran quedado mejor, pero a la máquina de coser no le ha dado la gana… todavía no sé por qué…

 

And as usual, the pants are too long for Bubu … boo for me! I should have shortened them before sewing the hem!!

(By the way, I did a longer hem part than the one proposed, I liked it better, you can see more of the dots.)

Y como casi siempre, los pantalones le van largos a Bubu… ¡¡mal, mal, mal!! Tenía que haberlos hecho más cortos antes de añadirle el dobladillo, en fin...

(Por cierto, he hecho la parte del dobladillo más larga, me gusta más así, porque se ven más los topos.)

Cheers to the newlyweds! - ¡Viva los novios!

Last weekend took place the wedding of Sara and Marc, which was fantastic, I must say! I finished my work on time, but it took way longer than I had thought. Much longer than it took doing my own bride and groom figures, because of the details, especially the dress was more time-consuming. Making three pairs tripled the whole thing too, of course...

El pasado fin de semana tuvo lugar la boda de Sara y Marc, que fue genial, todo hay que decirlo. Yo acabé mi Trabajo a tiempo, aunque me llevó más de lo que pensaba. Mucho más que cuando hice mis propios novios, por los detalles que hice esta vez (especialmente el vestido era más laborioso). Tener que hacer tres pares triplicó también la cosa, claro está.

One pair was set on the top of the cake. The other two pairs were presents for two couples that are marrying soon. Is it in your country also a tradition to give this type of figures to engaged friends?

Una de las parejas iba clavada en el pastel. Los otros dos pares eran regalos para parejas que se van a casar pronto. ¿Existe esta tradición en vuestro país también, de regalar estas figures a amigos prometidos?

And talking about the figurines to give: I needed a base for them to stand on. After a bit of brainstorming I ended up drilling four holes into a piece of wood, and covering this wood with felt for a nicer finish. For this part I needed help of my husband… I’m quite afraid of drills and other monster tools…

Y hablando de las figuras para regalar: necesitaba una base en la que se aguantaran. Después de pensar un poco acabé haciendo cuatro agujeros en una pieza de madera, y cubriéndola con fieltro para darle un mejor acabado. Para esto necesité ayuda de mi nene… Todavía me dan bastante miedo los taladros y aparejos similares…

Unfortunately, I took only three pictures of the process... so concentrated on finishing them I was every time...
