Cheers to the newlyweds! - ¡Viva los novios!

Last weekend took place the wedding of Sara and Marc, which was fantastic, I must say! I finished my work on time, but it took way longer than I had thought. Much longer than it took doing my own bride and groom figures, because of the details, especially the dress was more time-consuming. Making three pairs tripled the whole thing too, of course...

El pasado fin de semana tuvo lugar la boda de Sara y Marc, que fue genial, todo hay que decirlo. Yo acabé mi Trabajo a tiempo, aunque me llevó más de lo que pensaba. Mucho más que cuando hice mis propios novios, por los detalles que hice esta vez (especialmente el vestido era más laborioso). Tener que hacer tres pares triplicó también la cosa, claro está.

One pair was set on the top of the cake. The other two pairs were presents for two couples that are marrying soon. Is it in your country also a tradition to give this type of figures to engaged friends?

Una de las parejas iba clavada en el pastel. Los otros dos pares eran regalos para parejas que se van a casar pronto. ¿Existe esta tradición en vuestro país también, de regalar estas figures a amigos prometidos?

And talking about the figurines to give: I needed a base for them to stand on. After a bit of brainstorming I ended up drilling four holes into a piece of wood, and covering this wood with felt for a nicer finish. For this part I needed help of my husband… I’m quite afraid of drills and other monster tools…

Y hablando de las figuras para regalar: necesitaba una base en la que se aguantaran. Después de pensar un poco acabé haciendo cuatro agujeros en una pieza de madera, y cubriéndola con fieltro para darle un mejor acabado. Para esto necesité ayuda de mi nene… Todavía me dan bastante miedo los taladros y aparejos similares…

Unfortunately, I took only three pictures of the process... so concentrated on finishing them I was every time...

miau meow miau (2): Sunglasses case – Funda para gafas de sol

Bubu has her own sunglasses and they needed their own case, of course.

I found this “mini-clutch-tutorial” on Pinterest and I thought it could be perfect!

I used some felt as interfacing, maybe it’s too rigid, but I needed something that could really protect the glasses. The inside and the flap are made of the Japanese fabric, and the outside made of old jeans.

Bubu estrena gafas de sol y naturalmente necesitaban una funda.

Encontré este tutorial para un mini-neceser y pensé que sería perfecto.

He usado fieltro como entretela, quizá es muy rígido, pero necesitaba algo que protegiera las gafas de verdad. La parte interior y la solapa están hechos con la tela japonesa y el exterior con unos vaqueros viejos.

I’m quite proud of the result, and I’m happy I could try two new things:

1. Creating and adding a piping (I followed this tutorial here)!

Bai Jia Bei

Last Sunday I had a nice breakfast with Fanny from “Coses de Mare” (we met for the first time!). She wants to sew a Bai Jia Bei for the baby she’s specting, and for her 2 year old boy, and I wanted to contribute.

A Bai Jia Bei is a 100 good wishes quilt (a tradition in the northern part of China). The idea is that 100 relatives and friends give 1 fabric piece each, and write a wish for the baby, in order to welcome and celebrate the new life.

Isn't it a lovely idea??

I hope she receives all 100 patches and wishes soon, so that she can begin sewing!!

El pasado domingo estuve desayunando con Fanny de "Coses de Mare" (era la primera vez que nos veíamos!). Fanny quiere coser un Bai Jia Bei para el bebé que está esperando, y uno para su niño de dos años. ¡¡Y me encantó la idea de poder contribuir!!

Un Bai Jia Bei és una colcha de los 100 deseos (una tradición del norte de China). La idea es que 100 familiares o amigos regalen una pieza de tela cada uno y que escriban un deseo para el bebé que está por llegar, para darle la bienvenida y celebrar esta nueva vida.

¿Verdad que es una idea preciosa?

¡Espero que Fanny reciba pronto los 100 retales para que pueda empezar a coser la colchita!

miau meow miau (1): Fabric covered notebook – Libreta forrada con tela - tutorial

This is my new project with one of the fabric pieces I bought last week at Interquilt. I wanted to use it for something really special, something that should last forever, so, here it is:

Our Dictionary Bubu – Catalan!

My mum did a dictionary of my and my sister’s first words. I found it so funny when I was little (and I still do!), that I wanted to do it  with my own child, when I had the opportunity.

Now the day has come, Bubu is building up her vocabulary, and I want to keep a record! With only 13 months she’s already saying more than 10 words (she says them her way, of course, but she always does it the same way and they always mean the same).

Este es mi Nuevo proyecto con una de las telas que compré la semana pasada en Interquilt. Quería usarla para algo realmente especial, algo que durase para siempre, y creo que ya lo tengo:

¡Nuestro Diccionario Bubu – Catalán!

Mi mami hizo un diccionario con mis primeras palabras y las de mi hermana. Lo encontraba tan divertido cuando era pequeña (ahora también, claro), que quería hacerlo cuando tuviera la oportunidad.

Ha llegado el momento, Bubu dice cada día más palabras y quiero guardarlo para la posteridad. Con sólo 13 meses dice más de 10 palabras (naturalmente las dice a su manera, pero las dice siempre igual i significan siempre lo mismo).

So, here what I needed to create the dictionary:

-an index notebook (with the alphabet)
-an awl (or something sharp)
-fabric and thread
-thin cardboard and white glue

Así que, aquí va lo que usé para crear el diccionario:

-una libreta con alfabeto
-un punzón (algo puntiagudo sirve)
-hilo y tela
-cartulina y cola blanca

I first did the little holes on the covers of the notebook, they should help sewing later.

Primero hice los agujeros en las cubiertas, estos ayudan a coser después.

Then I sewed the fabric to the covers (remember to leave an allowance when cutting the piece of fabric).

After that, I cut two pieces of thin cardboard, and glued them on the inside of the covers.

Et voilà!

Entonces cosí la tela a las cubiertas (recordad de dejar margen en la tela cuando la cortéis).

Después corté dos trozos de cartulina y los pegué en la parte interior de las cubiertas. 

Et voilà!

I’m working on the second part of the “miau – meow – miau”, that means I’m sewing something else with this fantastic cats fabric! I hope I can show you next week.

Estoy tranajando en la segunda parte de “miau – meow – miau”, esto quiere decir que estoy cosiendo otra cosita con estos gatitos tan chulos… Espero poderlo enseñar la próxima semana.

My first “sew along” – Mi primer “cose conmigo”

I’m taking part in Marte’s (Compagnie M.) “sew along”! Yay!! That’s my first one! I couldn’t resist, because the Charles’ pants are soooo cute!!

Sewing necklace – collar costurero + Interquilt

This weekend took place a Patchwork and Scrapbook Fair in Girona, it’s called Interquilt.

I didn’t buy much, as you can see, I want to clear my sewing closet, before filling it with more fabric. I brought home three fat quarters, two small scraps (for something I’ve got in mind), and three pendants.

I love the Japanese fabric with cat print!!

Este fin de semana se celebró el Interquilt (la feria de patchwork y scrapbook) en Girona.

No compré casi nada, como podéis ver. Primero quiero despejar un poco el armario de costura, antes de meter más telas. Así que sólo traje tres “fat quarters”, dos retales pequeños para una cosa que tengo en mente, y tres colgantes.

¡Me encanta la tela japonesa con los gatitos!

No he tenido tiempo de coser nada nuevo esta semana pasada, pero el domingo me dio tiempo de hacer este collar, ¡¡me he hecho un homenaje a mi misma, jajajaja!!
